Lyrics
Eastward
On the Eastern Road
Out here in the barren north where our town lies
Men are used to clash their swords, to show off their might
Many a village has tried to press claim on our land
But all of them met their fate, were crushed by our hand
After long conflict their towns finally we held
Taken all possessions now we must search for new wealth
Where will we raid for lots of gold?
Out on the eastern road
Watch our adventure now unfold
Out on the eastern road
We travel to unknown regions never seen before
We met bands of wild savages, all with their own lore
They worship different gods and in small huts they live
They are primitive people, so what can they give?
Where will we raid for lots of gold?
Out on the eastern road
Watch our adventure now unfold
Out on the eastern road
Where will we raid for lots of gold?
Out on the eastern road
Watch our adventure now unfold
Out on the eastern road
Keep an eye out for tales untold
Out on the eastern road
For all their riches we now hold
The Great Artefact
Maiden, fairest beauty
Promised to me
So I was tricked
And sent northward
Land of witchcraft
Where I am kept to do my craft
I have built
A mighty furnace
Combined feathers,
Milk of virtue
With a seed
And finest fleece
These are the things I need
When the fire leaps through the windows
From flames arise
Through the door the sparks fly upward
Work through the night
From the fire, from the furnace
I shall extract
Finest magic gift of all
A great artefact
I see the dark deceit
And am not pleased
With my creation
So vicious
And malicious
Back into the furnace you’re cast
Molten metals blossom
On the bottom
They start forming
I bend downward
To see the heart
Of the shapes that there now appear
I have built
A mighty furnace
Combined feathers,
Milk of virtue
With a seed
And finest fleece
These are the things I need
When the fire leaps through the windows
From flames arise
Through the door the sparks fly upward
Work through the night
From the fire, from the furnace
I shall extract
Finest magic gift of all
A great artefact
Eastwind rushing
Westwind roaring
Southwind crying
Northwind howling
When the fire leaps through the windows
From flames arise
Through the door the sparks fly upward
Work through the night
From the fire, from the furnace
I shall extract
Finest magic gift of all
A great artefact
War on the War God
Sampo, the great work of the blacksmith
Was taken from the northland
As planned by the magician
Through great spell of the minstrel
Through great spell causing slumber
The host escaped
Louhi, when she had been awakened
She found the Sampo taken
And so she called for vengeance
A thick fog and destruction
A thick fog found the heroes
Then it began
War on the war god rising from the depths
Fear the son of Old-Age who comes for your flesh
Fire burned down the windrows, he blocked out the light
Kill the ancient monster, who brought the endless night
Three days the host was bound in blue-sea
And could not flee in safety
From wrath of their pursuers
The minstrel would not suffer
The minstrel would not perish
And drew his blade
Quickly the vapor breaks and rises
Far was seen the horizon
But when they started rowing
They heard a mighty roaring
They heard a massive rushing
Then he arose
War on the war god rising from the depths
Fear the son of Old-Age who comes for your flesh
Fire burned down the windrows, he blocked out the light
Kill the ancient monster, who brought the endless night
The boat was caught in immense assault
Where foam was shooting skyward
And vicious waves were rolling
The vessel was in turmoil
The vessel was in trouble
Was this the end?
Trembling, the host perceived the monster
Then rose the mighty hero
And he opposed the monster
But Tursas gave no answer
But Tursas showed no despair
And so they fought
War on the war god rising from the depths
Fear the son of Old-Age who comes for your flesh
Fire burned down the windrows, he blocked out the light
Kill the ancient monster, who brought the endless night
In the Tavern
We return from our journey. Back from foreign lands afar
There’s one place, one place I long to right in the town center’s heart
Fire’s burning, people singing. You are welcomed with a smile
And the smell of alcohol, it can be noticed from a mile
Here in the great tavern mead is flowing from our pints
Bring me ale, and bring me sahti; Bring me all that you can find
Here in the great tavern morning comes with stingy bite
That’s a worry for tomorrow; Now let’s party through the night
Tankards served by lovely maidens filled with nectar of the gods
This is one special occasion so bring out all of the hoard
Friends, we will now drink together. I’ll have yours, you can have mine
Now get drunk and have a good time. Drink from that delicious wine
Here in the great tavern mead is flowing from our pints
Bring me ale, and bring me sahti; Bring me all that you can find
Here in the great tavern morning comes with stingy bite
That’s a worry for tomorrow; Now let’s party through the night
Skål!
Grandfather's Tale
Have you heard of a man, a true legend, who owns the land
All from Denmark, up to Sweden. Through his skill he did receive them
A steward for king Harald, ruler of Denmark and Gotland
“Help me rule,” he was asked, to reinforce the kingdom so it lasts
Now the king, had some foes; “He is too old, he’s got to go!”
And they had schemed, made a plan. To get rid of this aged man
He took a bath, and he found they wanted to see their king drowned
And so he said, “Though I am weak… Death in combat is the death I seek.”
Now I tell you grandfather’s tale. Out to battle he had sailed
Called on men from far and wide to fight by his side
On request of King Harald, who wanted to die in war
He sent his men out to fight, until either king would die
No tale tells of greater war, and Sigurd’s men fought like a boar
Many men fell, on both sides. Back and forth went battle’s tide
Now one might see, far and wide the corpses of those who had died
When Harald saw the blood and gore he took his wagon and rode into war
Now I tell you grandfather’s tale. Out to battle he had sailed
Called on men from far and wide to fight by his side
On request of King Harald, who wanted to die in war
He sent his men out to the fight, with the gods at their side
Out into the battle they did ride
In the ranks an empty cart. This means the king did fall
For hundred-fifty years he lived.
Now slaughtered he lies there on the field
And a truce was offered there
An end to the war now his fate was sealed
The body found, and cleaned of blood
With honors prepared, placed on his wagon
With a saddle put in a howe
To go to Valhall, or forever ride on
